Four Natural Ways To Ease A Rosacea Breakout


When you have a rosacea and your skin breaks out badly, it's not uncommon to feel embarrassed and defeated. But you don't have to hide inside and wait for your skin to calm down. Try these natural remedies to ease your rosacea breakout and get back to feeling like yourself much sooner.

Eat foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids.

Omega-3 fatty acids are known for their ability to reduce inflammation in the body. Since rosacea is, at least in part, an inflammatory condition, increasing your intake of omega-3s during a bad breakout can help clear up your skin. Some great sources of omega-3 fatty acids include:

  • Flax seed (try stirring a few spoonfuls into your oatmeal)
  • Oily fish (enjoy a serving of salmon or tuna for dinner)
  • Walnuts (eat a handful as a snack or toss some in your salad)

Use a turmeric mask.

Turmeric is an herb that helps reduce inflammation by helping to increase circulation to the irritated area. You can make a homemade mask out of turmeric by mixing a few tablespoons of this ground spice with a little yogurt or milk. Smooth this paste over your face, and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Then, rinse your face off with cool water, and pat it dry with a towel. Your face may have a bit of yellow staining, but this can be removed with a mild soap. You should notice fewer bumps and less redness in the days following your mask treatment.

Apply a little olive oil.

Hydrating your skin can help re-form the skin's protective barrier, which will encourage the breakout to subside. However, most moisturizers are either too rich or too laden with artificial scents to use when you're suffering from a rosacea breakout. Moisturizing your skin with just a few drops of olive oil will help. Use the highest-quality, purest olive oil you can find. Rub a few drops between your palms, and smooth the oil over your clean skin.

Get a little sun.

A moderate dose of sunlight may calm down your skin and stop the breakout in its tracks. It also encourages your body to make vitamin D, which promotes healing. Take a walk in the sunshine, do some gardening, or just lay in the sun for a few minutes. Make sure you don't overdo it and get a sunburn, as this will only make matters worse for your skin.
